Dental Assistants

Dental Assistants with a Certificate III qualification in Dental Assisting have completed a nationally recognised program that equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective support to dentists and dental specialists.

These professionals are trained to assist in a variety of procedures, from routine cleanings and fillings to more complex oral surgeries. They play an essential role in helping to ensure that dental procedures run smoothly, providing assistance to the dentist, preparing patients for treatment, and performing a range of other important tasks such as sterilizing equipment, preparing materials, and taking x-rays.

Our Dental Assistants have undergone rigorous training and are well-versed in dental terminology, anatomy, and infection control. They work closely with dentists and other dental professionals to ensure that patients receive the highest level of care possible.

They are an integral part of our practice, providing essential support to our dentists and helping to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.

Oral Hygienists

Oral hygienists play a crucial role in maintaining and promoting oral health by using various techniques to remove tartar, stains, and plaque from teeth.

These procedures not only enhance a patient’s dental health but also contribute to their overall well-being.

Scaling involves the removal of tartar (hardened plaque) and calculus from the tooth surfaces using specialized instruments. This process helps prevent gum disease and cavities by eliminating the breeding grounds for harmful bacteria. Root planing is often performed in conjunction with scaling. It involves smoothing the roots of the teeth to prevent bacterial buildup and to promote gum tissue reattachment.

Root planing is particularly important in treating gum disease. After scaling and root planing, dental hygienists use a polishing instrument to remove surface stains from teeth, leaving them with a smooth, clean appearance. Dental hygienists may apply fluoride gels or varnishes to strengthen tooth enamel and make it more resistant to decay. This is especially beneficial for patients at higher risk of cavities. Sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars to prevent food particles and bacteria from getting trapped in the deep pits and grooves, reducing the risk of cavities.

Hygienists educate patients about proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and the use of interdental aids. They also provide guidance on maintaining a balanced diet for optimal oral health.

Hygienists may take dental X-rays to detect issues that may not be visible during a regular examination, such as cavities between teeth, impacted teeth, or bone loss.

Regularly, hygienists perform oral cancer screenings to identify early signs of oral cancer. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment.

Hygienists work with dentists to create personalized treatment plans for patients with specific oral health concerns. They may recommend additional treatments or refer patients to specialists when necessary. Hygienists measure and assess gum health using tools like periodontal probes. This helps identify signs of gum disease and guides treatment decisions. By employing these techniques and working closely with dentists, dental hygienists play a vital role in improving patients’ dental health, preventing cavities and tooth loss, and helping them achieve a healthy and beautiful smile. Furthermore, maintaining good oral health is linked to overall well-being, as it can reduce the risk of systemic health issues such as heart disease and diabetes.

Dental Therapist

Our Dental Therapists have completed an advanced program of study that focuses on the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, with a specific emphasis on the needs of children and adolescents.

They are trained to provide a range of dental treatments, including fillings, extractions, and preventative care such as fluoride treatments and sealants and work closely with the clinical dentist. They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our practice, and their commitment to delivering exceptional patient care is unwavering.

You’re bound to feel comfortable in the care of our passionate, friendly, and welcoming team. Our state-of-the-art clinic is second to none, and above all we prioritise the happiness of our patients who become like family to us.
